In honor of the Superbowl and our troops overseas I decided to make a few football cards for Operation Write Home. My goal is to make at least one card for every sketch on the Operation Write Home website. Pretty lofty goal since there are, at this point in time, 225 sketches. But it sounds like fun to me to at least try it!
If you know anything about me, you know that I never do anything in order. Do not ask me why. Things just work out this way in my world even when I have the best intentions.
So to start, here is Sketch #3
Operation Write Home needs cards in these 5 themes.
- Missing you
- Thank you
- Thinking of you/blank
The love and missing you cards are the most requested. So with that in mind, I combined the theme of love with football.
If you notice the green background, I stamped the “field” repeatedly with the “X” and “O” football plays. Now the X’s and O’s hopefully brings to mind kisses and hugs. Next, I used two different stamps to make the main caption. This adds more mushy football-love with the phrase let’s huddle instead of let’s cuddle. Then, I added some dimensional foam to the back of the footballs and to the text box just to give it a little more character.
I hope you are inspired to create a card or two. If you wish to make cards for Operation Write Home, please read all of their guidelines, deadlines and shipping details here www.operationwritehome.org.
Do you know anyone that is deployed that would enjoy sending hand-made cards back home to loved ones? You can sign them up or have them register under the Hero Registration section on the website.
What would you use in place of the footballs?
